Artist Statement

Utilizing the transparent qualities of watercolor, I attempt to express my interpretation of nature and convey my emotions in my paintings.  The infinite variety of the environment and the magnificent panorama of Southern Utah provide immense sources of inspiration for me.  I find that the unpredictable attributes of watercolor offer considerable challenges and often produce unexpected results.  Sometimes, the unexpected results can be very effective and rewarding.  I have always enjoyed watercolors and plan to continue refining my abilities with this medium.  However, as a newcomer to oil paints, I have been enjoying the properties of that medium as well, especially when painting on location.  Oils offer a new and exciting challenge.  I am looking forward to working with this medium further.
